Preparing quilt top for quilting:

-  press and square quilt top

-  backing should be 5 inches larger than quilt top on all four sides, (length plus 10 inches and width plus 10 inches), trim off selvage edges when piecing backing together and iron backing seam

-  batting should be 4 inches larger than quilt top on all four sides (or same size as backing)

-  When attaching border to quilt tops measure in 3 places, across the top of quilt, middle of quilt and bottom of quilt, take the three measurement and divide by three to get the length the border should be cut for the measured side. cut border to size and ease in fullness when sewing on border. Do this to the bottom as well. Measure again for the next set of borders, both at top, centre and bottom and divide the three measurements by three. Cut borders to measured length and sew on quilt. This method eliminates wavy borders which may be problematic for quilting.
